How Much Is 20 Pounds of Laundry?
Twenty pounds describes the weight of your laundry, not a fixed number of shirts, towels or bags. For The Happy Hamper’s standard laundry billed only by weight, 20 pounds costs $25 at $1.25 per pound. The same $25 minimum applies to smaller standard orders.

Back to homeWhy can two full bags weigh different amounts?
A bag of lightweight clothes and a similar-sized bag of towels can have very different weights. Fabric, garment size and how tightly you pack the bag all affect the comparison. Counting pieces or looking at a hamper can help you plan, but it cannot give you a reliable billable weight.
There is no universal number of washing-machine loads in 20 pounds either. Machines have different capacities, and care instructions can require items to be separated. Avoid treating a full home washer as a fixed number of pounds.
How can I estimate my laundry weight at home?
- Start with dry laundry. Do not add water to weigh it.
- If your scale can safely hold the container, weigh the empty container first.
- Weigh that container with the laundry, staying within the scale’s capacity.
- Subtract the empty container’s weight from the total.
If a bag is awkward to lift or balance, split it into smaller portions and add their weights. Do not stand on a scale holding a heavy bag if that makes you unsteady. A household scale gives you an estimate; confirm how your order will be weighed and priced before pickup.
What would a small standard order cost?
These examples apply only to standard laundry charged by weight, with no separately priced items:
- 10 pounds: the $12.50 weight calculation is below the minimum, so the charge is $25.
- 15 pounds: the $18.75 weight calculation is below the minimum, so the charge is $25.
- 20 pounds: 20 × $1.25 equals $25.
- 30 pounds: 30 × $1.25 equals $37.50.
You do not need to reach 20 pounds to request service. A smaller order simply still has the $25 minimum. Read the full Clayton laundry pricing guide for included pickup, delivery and confirmed rush terms.
Can I add sheets or a comforter to reach 20 pounds?
Do not assume every household item belongs in the same per-pound calculation. The published price list treats bedding sheets, comforters, standard pillows, throw blankets and machine-washable stuffed animals separately. Towels, bath mats and bathrobes are weighed as part of a standard load.
Check the household-item price list and identify these items when requesting pickup. Confirm the total for a mixed order instead of using this guide as a quote. Every item must also be suitable for both machine washing and machine drying.
Should I wait until I have a bigger load?
Choose a size that fits your household. Combining eligible laundry may make the minimum easier to use, but waiting is not helpful if you run out of clothes or towels. Keep enough essentials at home for the approximate 48-hour standard turnaround and the pickup and return times you actually confirm.
If you need something sooner, ask about rush availability before sending it. Rush is a separate confirmed service at $2.00 per pound with a $25 minimum, not the standard calculation above.
What should I do before booking?
Check your Clayton-area address, list any separately priced items and use the pickup preparation checklist. The minimum-order FAQ gives a quick reminder. A pickup request starts the conversation; wait for confirmation before leaving a bag outside.
